Hello,

We were on TV!

Don't worry if you missed it, we've got the link for you here.

Meat prices are indeed up. We've been doing what we can to not pass the cost onto you, so hopefully you won't notice too drastic a change. We do "food costing" every month to adjust our prices to make sure we stay in business.

We don't have one specific margin on every product: if we see a large price jump on a cut of meat, we often will accept making less money on rather than temporarily increase the price.

Most of this price change is seasonal: we always see an uptick in meat prices in summer, as there's more consumer demand for barbecue meat.

What's unusual this time is that some of the price change is tied to Chinese demand for corn and soybeans.

Last year, African swine fever crippled China's pork production. China is now buying huge quantities of American corn and soy to feed their growing herds. This reduces the feed supply for American pigs and cattle, which increases feed costs. Farmers run on really tight margins, so they have to raise meat prices to compensate.

This price fluctuation will sort itself out over time- we predict we'll see prices return to normal sooner rather than later. Again, demand rises seasonally at this time of year anyway, so we've dealt with this before.

These changes in the market are a great reminder that we live in a global economy. We'll continue to work to get you the best meat we can find, from suppliers we trust.

All the best,

AJ with Baron's
